That's a bit far fetched here in Pakistan right now. But may be the metropolitans have more chance at that title as companies like Microsoft, AMD etc host some competitions there. So unless and until gamers get recognition, support and sponsorship from whatever sources that can provide! Pakistan will continue producing mediocre gamers which will participate tournaments around the world losing the first round in every participation. But let's hope this isn't a static scene.
The concept of people playing and competing professionally in computer games is nothing new actually; there are not many Professional teams in Pakistan. There are some of the events which are held in Pakistan are International events such as the World Cyber Games (Licensed By Playdium), as well as the newly licensed International event Electronic Sports World Cup (Licensed By PX) & recently heard of Kode5 which will happen in December 2007 so lets just keep your fingers crossed. Have seen good initiation by Fariya Extreme Gaming with the name of KGL (Karachi Gaming League).
Gamers from around the world have qualifiers in their respective countries and are sponsored to attend such events. Gamers who compete in these events play their games at a level above the contemporary gamer. They devote their time into practicing daily to improving their skills, therefore they must be having advantage of that and the companies must come forward and support them.
Final Word:
Yet, the outlook of e-sports getting anywhere in other countries is still bleak. Even with all the international tournaments and media coverage, professional gaming still remains a myth rather than a fact. Most people either grow out of gaming or quit completely after realizing that there is no stable future for a competitive gamer.

In Karachi, Counter Strike 1.6 Gaming was first initiated I must say dominated from Defense area with the likes of Incredibles, MiP but than many good players & teams emerge from Gulshan / North areas of Karachi & they have snatched the pro gaming level which was at first only means to Defense! But now there are so many good teams to compete with, thus the level of gaming has increased & more & more gamers/clans emerging everyday.
Even so, we could still consider e-sports very much in its infancy. Before becoming what they are today, who is to say that electronic gaming will not achieve mainstream sports status? Even as I write this article, post-ESWC mania the many gamers and e-sports fans alike are already preparing themselves for the World Cyber Games that will be held in San Francisco this coming October. Game on! Gamers!
